Building on a previous Jean Monnet Module, the Jean Monnet Chair on European and International Human Rights Standards in Conflicts and Disasters (EIHRSCaD) aims at exploring normative developments in the relation between human rights and situations of armed conflict and disaster, mainly through research and teaching activities.
Its objectives are to provide participants with an adequate level of knowledge of the role of human rights obligations in emergency prevention/management and inform the general public on these issues, to foster dialogue between academics and practitioners, and to support EU policy-making in this field.
The yearly activities and outputs through which the objectives will be pursued include:
Roughly 200 students/participants each year will benefit from the projects’ activities. It is hoped that they will mainstream human rights considerations in their academic and professional activities, and that European standards and best practices in this area will get prominence in the international debate.
