Prof. Emanuele Sommario, EIHRSCaD Chair Holder, was recently in Vienna to work with colleagues of the ILA Committee on “Human Rights in States of Emergency”. They met to prepare the text of a report that will be presented at the next ILA’s Conference in Athens (24-28 June 2024).
From 6 to 8 November Emanuele Sommario (EIHRSCaD Chair Holder) has been involved in a Mechanism Refresher Seminar, organized in Lisbon for the personnel of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
Professor Emanuele Sommario – Director of the Master in Human Rights and Conflict Management e and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair on European and International Human Rights Standards in Conflicts and Disasters – has been appointed as a member of the working group tasked with the drafting of the new military manual on international law applicable by the Italian armed forces.
The manual will be a fundamental tool in the education, training and operational activities of our armed forces. It will represent an essential aid for the Italian military personnel deployed abroad, which will allow it to operate in full compliance with international law.
The working group is composed of experts from the Ministry of Defence, the Italian Red Cross and academia. It will need to produce a final draft of the Manual by the end of 2024.
