Biography

Luca Poltronieri Rossetti is postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Law, Politics and Development of Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, where he has been working on a research project on the impact on human rights of illicit trade in Syria and Iraq.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Law and a PhD in International Law from the University of Trento (Italy), where he has been teaching assistant in the courses of international law and the law of international organizations. He has interned with the Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia and he has been visiting scholar at the Amsterdam Center for International Law.

His research mainly focuses on international criminal law, international criminal courts and tribunals, and procedure, with particular regard to the role of prosecutorial discretion in international criminal trials. Recently, he has focused on sexual and gender-based violence in armed conflict, ecocide and the role of criminal law in the protection of the environment.
